brief missive
admission of radio silence + some updates
Hey everyone! Long time no stack. I’ve been keeping busy and life’s been EVENTFUL on my end. Mostly, that’s looked like writing and recording demos of new songs (and old ones I never got around to recording right), session work, a show here and there. And a good amount of traveling and looking toward the future.
I’m not going to write too much about it here today; suffice it to say that after many years of making it work in Philadelphia, I’ve been opening myself up these last few months to the possibility of living and working elsewhere. So that’s on the horizon. No telling what will happen right now, I’m in the early stages, but unfortunately I have to leave my current spot soon, so something’s gonna have to get figured out pretty quickly. Wish me luck. (And if you have any cool job leads in New York or Chicago or LA or literally fucking anywhere, hit me up!)
I’ll have bigger, longer posts soon, including demos for subscribers and more complete interviews I’ve done. In the meantime, just to catch you up:
This interview I did with the wonderful painter John Mitchell went up on TCI in January, in case you missed it! Was a fun one, conducted in his living room in Tuckahoe, NJ while I was visiting.
I had the immense pleasure and privilege of playing banjo on a couple songs on Daphne Ellen's debut album, which came out on February 20th. Daphne writes lovely songs and is a total sweetheart. She’s celebrating the album with a show in Philly at First Unitarian on April 19th, you should attend! (I won’t be playing, but I’ll be there!)
I just wanna shout out my friends in Pileup and First Rodeo for having me contribute banjo to their forthcoming albums. I think the First Rodeo one comes out in a month or so, look out for that!
Shouts out to Fenne Lily (and my dear bud Sam Skinner, engineering and producing) for having me on a session recently…an immense pleasure that one was. Not at liberty to share more but we’ll see what happens…
I’ve got a set coming up in Philly on April 20th. It’s a house show in West (they call the spot Rug Club) and I’ll be playing pretty much only new or unreleased songs. I hope you’ll come! Hit me up for more information.
Probably another interview for TCI will be published this month, if all goes according to plan…
Really late to the party, but finally using YouTube. For now, mostly sharing videos from shows and concerts I’ve been to or played. Check that out here.
Mostly, just wanted to write a quick one because it’s been months since I’ve shared anything here, but wanted you to know a lot is brewing! It’s not easy to focus on making music when work and housing are up in the air, but I’m doing my best.
Much love, more soon,
-Ty
